Pelican Wing

While volunteering at the local wildlife rehabilitation center, I became friends with an American White Pelican with a crippled right wing who was sojourning there. He is a being as colossal of personality as he is of size, coming up to my ribs when standing. It was such a joy to play basketball with him, pitching shrimp and locally caught fish into his great maw. His mannerisms, his cluckity vocalizations, the shape of his yellow feet, and the piercing gaze of his blue eyes slayed my heart. Thankfully he got to go live at a bird sanctuary in Ohio.

We are on the Mississippi Flyway so great white Pelicans travel through, staying for a while in the local lakes, gyring in great stately formations with secret communications and counsels amongst themselves.

When you are with a being like this you can only be in awe. Now I imagine angel wings to be pelican wings. The gold background is a suitable iconography :)
