Angels I

Angels I is the sixth to be created in the Angelic Orders series, yet is the final in the series, Angels being the closest to our material reality, right on the border, interacting with us directly, bridging and crossing into our realm. Because of that, Angels I is the most embodied, and that is quite literally my body print lying down on the canvas.

The inspiration for Angels I is a photograph by Jon Mason of the print a bird-strike made, the ghostly shape a bird left on a windowpane, down to the dust from their wings. Whatever story you interpret of this Angelic collision, the image resounds through my consciousness as a message of the vulnerability of the world, the world that contains birds, Angels, butterflies—the precious openness and riskiness of existence. Or perhaps the message for you is how often your guardian Angel is pressing up against your awareness, trying desperately to get your attention! Or perhaps you will have another story for it altogether....

The series will be available for purchase as a unity, all nine paintings, in 2026, after an exhibition in which they are all shown as a group.
