Seraphim I is the first in my Angelic Orders series. It was the second created, after the Cherubim—initiated on 21 September 2024, in a wooded grove, at an outdoor arts festival where I was one of the invited live painters. He was truly born when I was prepping the canvas and a sweetgum leaf fell into my lap, which became part of my painting. I still have the leaf!
All of the angelic energies of the other orders are present according to their colors in this large work. Of course the six, great, fanning wings of the Seraphim are scarlet—those are modelled on cardinal wings. The green wings are the first apparition of Carolina parakeets in a work by me (see Mississippi Matangi and the Carolina Parakeet). The magenta tentacles are... something ;o)
I'd rather leave it up to you what else is in the painting, do write to me if you want to ask about anything or share your ideas! But I will say that the big pink bubblegum bubble orb at the painting's heart—I hadn't intended it to, but there was a moment I realized that the bubblegum bubble was around the sweetgum leaf—the painting itself was having a joke on me—about gum(?!?!)! It is true that paintings can have a sense of humor and the angel in this one definitely does.
The series will be available for purchase as a unity, all nine paintings, in 2026, after an exhibition in which they are all shown together.
